Welcome to San Diego Non-Force Chiropractic
Dr. Laura Hershey’s Approach
The backbone of Dr. Hershey’s practice is a very gentle style of adjusting that was promoted by Dr. Richard Van Rumpt, DC. Dr. Van Rumpt developed this style for chiropractors in the 1920s in California. Dr. Hershey’s version is quite similar to Dr. Van Rumpt’s Non-Force Technique. Dr. Hershey performs a hands-on style of adjusting. Her adjustment gets its power from its thoroughness and specificity. She adjust bones, ligaments, muscles, and discs when they need attention. There is no abrupt impulse into your flesh. Dr. Hershey’s adjustment is a gently vibratory unbending of her elbow. She can get away with such a gentle action because of the specific location, direction, and care taken in applying the adjusting pressure to the body. Dr. Hershey uses no more pressure to attain a correction than would be comfortably applied to a closed eye. There is currently a list of chiropractors with permission to use the DNFT acronym to promote their practices. I am not on that list.
Another wonderful facet of Dr. Hershey’s adjusting style, aside from the gentility, is the ability to check the adjustment. Because of the leg reflex used, she can be sure of the accuracy of the adjustment. The adjusting Dr. Hershey does is appropriate for athletes and newborn infants as well as fragile elderly.
Other Services Offered
Very few of Dr. Hershey’s patients need x-rays. She refers out for x-ray when she needs to rule out fracture, infection, and cancer.
The massage Dr. Hershey offers is a basic Swedish type of massage, with lots of relaxing kneading, the type she used while working in saunas of cruise ships. This type of massage is very soothing. It’s just the kind of gentle treatment you would like to give as a gift for your mother or as a midweek hour-long vacation for yourself.
Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique is Dr. Hershey’s favorite self-help method of ridding oneself of unhelpful emotions. Most fear, pain, anger, anxiety, and sadness can be ameliorated by Dr. Hershey’s interpretation of Gary Craig’s Emotional Freedom Technique. Emotional Freedom Technique is not chiropractic. Although Dr. Hershey is a wonderful person and accomplished professional, it’s all about the outcome, and Dr. Hershey provides amazing results – quickly and painlessly. Whether a relatively small but painful problem, or a serious health concern, Dr. Hershey has been a miracle-worker for me
Great treatment procedure for people that don’t like pain–no snap, crackle and pop stuff. I recommend this chiropractor for people with back issues. Also, only one block from the ocean and a beach walking path; convenient for going for a walk after a treatment to settle in the adjustments
I have been seeing Dr. Hershey for years (on and off). I had to see her this last Saturday (yes she works on the weekends). I hurt myself playinf soccer and could barely walk, after my 20 minute appointment with her I was feeling much better and later that day I was a new person!
Lemon Grove, CADr. Laura has done wonderful things for the health of my body which continues to amaze me because the touch is so light.
Just recently my hip was in a great deal of pain. Dr. Laura not was able to determine the problem, make the needed corrections, she is also able to check her work to confirm that the adjustment had the desired result.

I was nervous about seeing a chiropractor. The idea of cracking anything doesn’t sound fun to me. Especially my spine. However, Dr. Hershey put me right at ease. She was very helpful, explaining everything that she was doing. She’s serious about her non-force method, I felt like she barely touched me. However, the results where amazing!
San Diego, CADr Laura Hershey is awesome! I went in because my back had been a pain in the… back, and she worked on me a few times, and voila! back is great! But the side effect was that my knee which I broke into ten pieces over six years ago and has been a bit crooked and could never get it all the way straight, no matter how much I pushed and worked on it, was all of a sudden straight!
San Diego, CADr. Laura Hershey specializes in a type of healing that is subtle and profound.
A client won’t feel pressure; yet, the joints, tendons, muscles, and nerves are responding to adjustment. The overall effect is one of restored health, well-being, and harmony in the body.
